How much small talk is appropriate in business meetings?
And should one abstain from alcohol during a business dinner?
These questions were the focus of the first Business Etiquette workshop at John Spedition,
an internal training event that took place on March 31, 2023. Eight apprentices from the logistics
company in Eichenzell-Welkers participated in the workshop.
To conclude the workshop, the apprentices had the opportunity to put their acquired knowledge into practice. They tested the most important rules of Business Etiquette in a social setting during a gala dinner at Il Mare di Sardegna in Fulda.
They have to deal with new tasks, acquire relevant expertise, and gain a comprehensive insight into interesting
professional fields.
The interaction with colleagues, customers, and business partners also plays an important
role in their training. The business world has its own set of rules that newcomers must learn. However, apprentices often feel uncertain about how to dress appropriately for business meetings, how to greet customers with proper etiquette, or what to consider during a business dinner. At the logistics company John Spedition in East Hesse, a new format has been introduced to provide apprentices with an internal training on the correct etiquette in a business context - and it has been very successful.

The highlight of the event was a gala dinner at a restaurant in Fulda, where the
apprentices had the opportunity to directly apply what they had learned. The responsible managers
at John Spedition believe that this event was a successful conclusion to the training.
"Our goal was to provide structured practical knowledge. We want the apprentices to feel confident and secure
in their interactions with customers, suppliers, and colleagues," says Barbara Siegmann, the trainer at John Spedition. Such events also noticeably strengthen the cohesion within the apprentices' team and enhance social exchange.
"We learned everything important from A to Z and immediately put it into practice. The event showed me that we have a great team and that our trainers care about us with a lot of passion."
The training made it clear to her how important it is to choose the right etiquette to make a good impression in the business world. After all, in interactions with customers and business partners, the first impression often matters, whether it's about greetings or wearing appropriate clothing.
